Hawaii Kai Golf Course

Hawaii Kai, Oahu18 Holes3.7 (613 reviews)

About This Course

Nestled on the southeastern shores of Oahu, where the majestic Ko’olau Mountains meet the Pacific’s gentle embrace, lies a golfing gem that offers both challenge and charm. This public 18-hole course in Hawaii Kai provides an accessible yet memorable experience, a refreshing counterpoint to some of the island’s more exclusive layouts. As you step onto the first tee, the scent of plumeria drifts on the trade winds, and the panoramic views of Koko Head crater and the sparkling ocean set a breathtaking stage for your round. It’s a place where the aloha spirit permeates every swing, inviting golfers of all skill levels to enjoy the game amidst unparalleled natural beauty. The course itself is a testament to thoughtful design, offering an intermediate challenge that rewards precision over brute force. Fairways are generally forgiving, but strategically placed bunkers and water features demand respect. While there isn't one singular "signature hole" that overshadows the rest, the back nine truly shines, often playing closer to the coastline with tantalizing glimpses of the turquoise waters. The par-3s are particularly engaging, requiring careful club selection to navigate the prevailing winds. You’ll find yourself pausing between shots, not just to strategize, but to simply soak in the dramatic backdrop – a vibrant tapestry of volcanic rock, lush tropical foliage, and the endless blue horizon. What makes this course truly unique in Hawaii’s golf landscape is its remarkable blend of accessibility and stunning scenery. It offers a taste of championship-level views without the championship-level price tag, making it a favorite among locals and a delightful discovery for visitors. It’s a course where you can truly relax and enjoy the game, feeling the warmth of the Hawaiian sun on your skin and the gentle ocean breeze at your back. It embodies the spirit of island golf – laid-back, beautiful, and utterly unforgettable. For visiting golfers, a few tips will enhance your experience. Book your tee time in advance, especially for morning rounds, as this course is popular. Consider renting clubs if you're traveling light; the pro shop is well-equipped. And most importantly, bring your camera! The photo opportunities, particularly around sunset, are incredible. After your round, explore the vibrant Hawaii Kai community, perhaps grabbing a bite at one of the many local eateries. This course isn't just a round of golf; it's an authentic Hawaiian experience.

Ocean Breezes & Irons: A Look at Hawaii Kai Executive The Smartgolfcourses checked out the Executive Course at Hawaii Kai. Perfect spot if you want to work on your irons with an ocean breeze. The pro shop and facilities are bustling. From a Smartgolfcourses perspective, this is a great layout for a quick, scenic round. The coastline views from the start are unbeatable. Great work by the team keeping this scenic spot moving smoothly for everyone. -------- Battling the Trade Winds: Scouting the Championship Course The Championship Course at Hawaii Kai. It’s definitely the "big brother" to the Executive course. Much longer and wider. You can really feel the trade winds kicking in here, which adds a serious layer of challenge! Smartgolfcourses watched some groups tackle that opening hole; wide fairways, but you absolutely need to control your ball flight against the breeze. The views of the coastline and the Koko Head backdrop are just spectacular. Huge shout-out to the staff for managing such a massive property and keeping the pace moving in the wind.

Based on the price it was an amazing round of golf. I got a really good deal on Golfnow.com or Teeoff; I can't remember which one. I would have been a little disappointed at the conditions of the greens and the rough if I would have paid full price even though Hawaii Kai was considerably cheaper than the nicer courses. I did spend most of my time off the fairway, so it would have been nicer if it was a little more kept up. Half way through our round we got hungry, so we went to the clubhouse. The worker was friendly enough, but they weren't serving any food at the snack shop or the restaurant! I get that it was a little later on on a Monday, but now I know to bring food!! Also the guy at the golf cart stand could have been a little more excited about his job! But with all that being said... I will definitely be going back if I can find another good rate! There are some holes with partial views of the ocean and it's a pretty scenic 18 round of golf. And when you're done, I highly recommend Sandy's Beach that is right next door! They have some really good waves and beach areas. But the customer service and the course could use a little fine tuning!

Hawaii was very dry while we were there. Nice little executive golf course. We really enjoyed it
