Nestled amidst the historic sugar cane fields and burgeoning residential areas of Ewa Beach, this municipal gem offers a refreshing take on Hawaiian golf. While many Oahu courses boast oceanfront drama and championship challenges, this 18-hole track delivers unpretentious enjoyment with a distinctly local flavor. The air hums with the gentle trade winds, carrying the scent of plumeria and the distant sound of waves from the nearby Pacific. It’s a place where you can truly unwind, focusing on the simple pleasure of a well-struck shot without the pressure of a hefty green fee. The layout itself is a testament to approachable golf. Wide, forgiving fairways invite you to swing freely, while the relatively flat terrain makes for an easy walk, allowing you to soak in the tropical surroundings. While not boasting dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering and a few well-placed water features keep you honest without being overly penal. Keep an eye out for the occasional vibrant hibiscus blooming alongside the greens, adding a splash of color to your round. This course shines as a fantastic spot for beginners to hone their skills or for seasoned players to enjoy a relaxed round without the fuss. What truly sets this course apart in Hawaii's golf landscape is its authentic, community-oriented spirit. It’s a place where locals gather, where families introduce their children to the game, and where the aloha spirit is palpable on every tee box. You won't find sprawling resorts or exclusive memberships here, just honest golf at an incredible value. It’s a refreshing counterpoint to some of the island's more opulent offerings, proving that world-class golf experiences don't always come with a premium price tag. For visiting golfers, this course is an absolute must-play if you’re looking for an affordable, fun, and genuinely Hawaiian golf experience. Don't expect pristine championship conditions, but do anticipate friendly faces, a laid-back atmosphere, and a chance to play a quick, enjoyable round. Rent a set of clubs, grab a hot dog at the turn, and embrace the unpretentious charm. It’s the perfect way to start your golf vacation or wind down after a day of exploring Oahu's stunning beaches and vibrant culture.

Historic Muni Vibes: Checking out the Grounds at Ewa Villages The Smartgolfcourses visited Ewa Villages to see the municipal side of things. There’s a lot of history here near the old sugar cane train tracks. The atmosphere is super relaxed and local. The first fairway looks wide and inviting. Smartgolfcourses loves finding these community gems where the game is accessible to everyone. Well done to the crew for preserving the historic charm and keeping the game accessible here.
This is a municipal courses, so you get what you pay for. With that, for resident fee it's not bad. The good: Most of the tee boxes are alright, grass with some rough spots. Some of the tee boxes are sandy, but it's a dry area where the course is at. The fairways are mostly grass, there are a few with some bare spots but not too bad. The sand traps have sand, but some don't have a lot. The greens are alright, grass and the balls roll nice. The bad: Some tee boxes are sandy with little grass. Some bare spots on some of the fairways. The course can get a little dry, ball may roll on the fairways (good thing). Greens can be a little firm so the ball rolls out a bit, makes it challenging. There are a few holes with some sharp dog legs and only two par 3's with water. Most holes have thick trees and bushes on either side of the fairway, so hit it straight ... not like me. It can get a bit crowded, pace of play can be a little slow at times.
$86 for non-residents and $45ish for residents is highway robbery based on how this course has been maintained and is currently being run. I went on a Saturday around 1000. It wasn't too busy but with no management of player's start time, it took over 4.5 hours to play this course. There were clearly a lot of people that are unaware of golf etiquette ( waiting for the team ahead of them to completely clear off the green on a par 4 course before tee-ing off, hitting ahead on the whites while there's actively another group on the reds, hitting within 5-10 feet of other players). This is why tee times are staggered and why a Marshall is absolutely necessary. The tee boxes were more sand than grass, and the fairways shared the same quality. This course is in desperate need of proper management. This was a 4.5 hour exercise in frustration. As far aa municipal courses are concerned, West Loch is the better choice. Not to mention, West Loch has a banging restaurant.
